Call Me Crazy?
So, I work at a laundry, tanning, and video place in my hometown and naturally I see a ton of people every day. One person who came in today really unhinged me. Strangely, this person was local but I can’t help but think that he won’t come back in since I work there.
It’s because I’m liberal. I told him I was planning on being a teacher and, naturally, that makes me left wing in his eyes. For myself, I don’t view teaching as a politically assignable career. I don’t want to teach in the future to extend my own agenda into the minds of young people but encourage learning and filling their small and capable brains with knowledge they should know in order to not repeat the past.
Even though this person’s eyes went wide with horror, I answered “I am.” He asked if I was aware that socialism branches right off of that. Honestly, one can be liberal without being a socialist. On that note, I do agree with some socialist ideals but in my eyes that doesn’t make me a socialist. I quickly added that I am a blue girl living in a red state to rattle him a little bit. Two can play this game. Amazingly, his eyes went even wider. He asked, “You know that our countries going to socialism right?” I answered with a quick yes and a smile on my lips. I told him I believe socialized healthcare is the way to go which amazed him still more. Communism and socialism aren’t the same I said. He answered that first comes socialism, then communism, then fascism. He stormed out of the shop clearly saying that I was crazy under his breath.
This really upsets me; that someone can’t share their beliefs without being criticized for them. For example, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie defended his newly appointed Supreme Court Judge, Sohail Muhammed, after multiple polititians and citizens protested his choice. The fact that Governor Christie had to do this at all upsets me. It is LAW in our country that we are free to have freedom of religion. I can even be a Neo-Nazi if I wanted to because it is protected by our Constitution.
So you want to call me crazy? Go ahead. At least I know what I’m talking about. (Sort of. I’m a kid. I don’t know everything. That’s why its called LEARNING.)
